AC45 wing sail controls
For the AC World Series and the America’s Cup Match, races will start when the wind is between 5 and 33 knots. That is a big range. Since the wing has enough power to race in 5 knots, it will be way overpowered in 33, or even 20 knots for that matter! What controls does the crew have to manage this power?
This short video will explain the wing structure and camber and twist, two important controls to manage the power. Another important control is the wing trim line which functions like the traveler on a conventional soft sail rig. Have a look at this article to see how the wing trimmer fits in.
